Irene Apata, DDS

My name is Dr. Irene Apata (Ahpahtah) and I was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Maryland. I’m a board-certified pediatric dentist, having received my undergraduate degree in Biology from Stockton University in New Jersey and my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the first dental school in the world, the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, back in 2012. After my dental education, I practiced as a general dentist until 2017, when I decided to specialize in pediatric dentistry because of my love for working with children and teenagers. I did a residency in general practice at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown, PA, and my specialty training in pediatric dentistry at the University of Florida.

I have a lot of experience providing care to families from all walks of life and I’m very excited to start my own practice in my own community. I belong to a number of organizations: the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Maryland State Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Dental Association.

I have devoted my professional career to all aspects of pediatric dentistry practice with special interests in prevention, evidence-based treatment, and disease management. To keep abreast of the latest developments in my specialty, I have always exceeded the continuing education requirements for Maryland dentists.

Aside from dentistry, I have many hobbies that include listening to music; singing and songwriting; traveling; watching movies, shows, and sports; and spending time with family and friends. Fun fact – I sang the national anthem at the Wizards/Bulls game on New Years Day in 2022. I’ve been married to my husband, Joseph, for 11 years. We have been blessed with three amazing children: Alexander, Christian, and Joy.
